New to horses and riding (have never taken lessons before)
Between ages 7-12
Can commit to a 4-week session for lessons (there are no make-up lessons for this class, so we strongly recommend that you enroll only if you can attend all 4 lessons)
What will students learn?
The basics of horse behavior and horse psychology. In order to be safe around horses, equestrians must learn how to read equine body language and understand how to conduct themselves appropriately around horses
How to lead and handle a horse on the ground. Leading and handling skills are the precursor to good riding, and they help develop students’ relationships with the horses.
How to equip a horse for riding. “Tacking up” is the equestrian term for grooming the horse and putting on its saddle and bridle.
The basics of horseback riding. This includes proper riding position and techniques, as well as how to start, stop, and steer at the walk. If students are ready (usually by the 2nd ride), they will be introduced to the next gait (speed), trotting.
